About the Film

Only fishermen lived on the island of La Graciosa lived until 60-70 years ago, when canaries starting to visit for the holidays. In the late 1970s it became a place visited by tourists from Europe seeking tranquility and good beaches.

We recovered and digitized the images shot in Super 8mm that belonged to tourists from other islands, mostly Lanzarote, Tenerife and La Palma. in addition to a German couple who live on the island for more than 40 years.

La Graciosa is probably one of the few places in Europe where there are still no tarmac roads. It is the most unknown and the one that lavishes most serenity of the entire Canarian Archipelago. Whoever seeks a place that is different will be thrilled by this charming and perfectly suited island.

La Graciosa Island is located on the northwest region above Lanzarote, which administers it. From Lanzarote till La Graciosa you can go by ferry which only takes about 20 minutes, it’s very cheap and easy to catch. In the La Graciosa Island you might find wide beaches perfect for relaxing and spending some quality time in front its crystal clear waters. The most famous beaches, Los Franceses and La Cocina, are on the south side of the island.

La Graciosa belongs to the Chinijo archipelago, which also belong other small islands like Roque del Este and Oeste, Montaña Clara and Alegranza. Even though it’s officially an island, as 630 people live there, it’s mostly known as an islet.

This island only has two known populations: Caleta de sebo, a very traditional village and also Pedro Barba, a tourist destination where  you might enjoy your holidays.

The climate in La Graciosa is smooth and pleasant throughout the year. In summertime the temperatures rarely exceed 25 celsius degrees (77º F) and during winter you won’t encounter less than 16 ºC (60,8 º F). There might be some rain during winter but the weather will stay warm and pleasant. In La Graciosa you might go to the beach either during winter or summer and even swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

To get to La Graciosa island you should cross the sea from Ózorla, a fishermen’s population on the north of Lanzarote. Streets and roads on La Graciosa are unpaved sand. Motor vehicles are strictly prohibited and limited to a handful of licensed vehicles for special purposes. Access to the Island is by a 35-minute ferry crossing from Orzola on Lanzarote to the harbour in the village. There is a campsite on the Island situated on Playa del Salado at the western edge of Caleta del Sebo.
