AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE THEORY, PRACTICE AND USE OF AMATEUR FILMS

Over the last fifteen years there has been an increasing interest in non-theatrical cinematic forms, especially in the field of amateur film. Adapted collection policies of archives and the development of new forms of access have changed the notion of the amateur film, while video platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo have strengthened the awareness and popularity of amateur filmmaking practice. At the same time individual and artistic initiatives have added to the standing
and significance of such filmic forms.
Based on the results of a two-year research project at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for History and Society »Amateur Film Archeology« digs into the heterogeneous grounds of the different practices, uses, genres and theories of homemade cinema. Bringing together leading European researchers in the field of amateur film, this conference will open for debates and an exchange of recent research activities.
