2019 Home Movie Day Locations

Home Movie Day 2019 will be on Saturday, October 19th, 2019, but events take place throughout the year. Most Home Movie Day events are open screenings of home movies from the public, but each event is different and organized by local hosts, so check with the organizers for details. In addition to open screenings of home movies from the public, Home Movie Day events include workshops, presentations, and screenings of archival home movie collections. For updates about Home Movie Day events in your region and general Center for Home Movies news, please sign up for our mailing list – we promise to not email you more than once a month! This page will be updated throughout the year as hosts announce their events. If you are planning on hosting an event, please write to us at info@centerforhomemovies.org to register.

Join the South Side Home Movie Project for an introduction to this unique initiative to collect, preserve, digitize and exhibit amateur films from Chicago’s South Side neighborhoods. Featuring film clips from the 1920s-1980s, this session invites attendees to imagine new ways of activating and preserving community knowledge through home movies. Families who have donated their films to the SSHMP will be on hand to narrate their films and share the experience of preserving their home movies and seeing them on screen for the first time in decades. SSHMP staff will provide information on preservation and donating films to the SSHMP archive.
